Katie Piraino, PT

 

Katie graduated from the Middlesex Hospital School of Physiotherapy in London (UK) in 1989 and completed a residency in Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy in 2000. She specializes in general orthopedic physical therapy, spine, pre and post partum musculoskeletal dysfunction and pelvic pain. She is an active member of the APTA (American Physical Therapy Association) serving as the current vice president for the Alaska APTA Chapt. She is also a member of the orthopedic and Women's Health sections, The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (UK), and The American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Therapists. Katie is board certified in the Strain and Counterstrain technique. She enjoys skiing, hiking, biking, yoga and traveling with her family.

Joy Backstrum, PT

 

Joy was raised in Juneau, Alaska. She graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in Physical Therapy in 1986. Joy worked in rural Alaska for 4 years before moving to Anchorage in 1990. She completed a residency in Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy in 2002. In 2016 she completed a certification in Postural Restoration™. Joy specializes in orthopedics and pelvic health. She is a member of the APTA and its Women's Health section. Joy is the past 2-term vice president of the Alaska Chapter of the APTA. She has been instrumental in bringing national and internationally known speakers in the field of physical therapy to the state of Alaska. Joy has advanced training in pelvic health including male and female incontinence, pelvic pain and pelvic organ prolapse. Joy has advanced training in women's health issues such as pre and post-partum musculoskeletal dysfunction and osteoporosis. Outside of work, Joy enjoys alpine and cross country skiing, hiking, berry picking and entertaining in her back yard with her husband, Chris and grown kids, Kate and Eric.
